THE PROJECT
Estilo Interiors was tasked with a specialist interior fit-out of BPP University’s Dental Institute in Birmingham. The project involved extensive refurbishment of all interior areas, including the installation of a new staircase. The School of Dentistry provides modern research facilities for more than 600 undergraduate and postgraduate students and trainees. There are a large number of postgraduate research students together with support staff present in the school. The school continues to grow, and the Birmingham Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry is well placed to meet the demands and challenges of the coming years.
HOW WE DID IT
The works involved both category A and B fit-out works to part of an area on the 3rd floor along with works on the 2nd floor underneath in order to create space for a new staircase from BPP Professional Services demise to the new area on the 3rd floor. The works included the formation of stud partitions in order to create the new offices, rooms, toilets, lecture areas, dental areas, and to separate the BPP area from the space that would remain. The fit-out works also included dry lining, suspended ceilings, electrical installations, HVAC installation, installation of a fire alarm system that would connect into the existing, joinery, general decoration, and floor finishes, data and small power, create a hole in the floor slab for the new staircase, plinths for dentists’ chairs, specialist services connections for the dentist chairs, the installation of moveable partitions in the lecture areas, and fit-out of staff and common areas. The works were completed in two phases, with the first phase being the construction/Cat A & B fit-out of the 3rd floor area. Upon completion of this, the area was handed to BPP for the installation of specialist dental equipment.
THE RESULT
The finished space included modern research facilities for over 600 undergraduate and postgraduate students and trainees, as well as postgraduate research students and support staff. The fit-out works included creating new offices, rooms, toilets, lecture areas, dental areas, and specialist services connections for the dentist chairs. The project was completed in two phases, with the first phase being the construction/Cat A & B fit-out of the 3rd floor area. Upon completion of this, the area was handed to BPP for the installation of specialist dental equipment.
