THE PROJECT
Refurbishment of existing meeting rooms into a brand new, “CoLab” work space, to support Gowling WLG’s internal and external initiatives.
THE WORK
The project involved the removal of wall and floor finishes, decoration, floor finishes, AV equipment, bespoke joinery, and furniture. The goal was to create a focal point for education and support while establishing a flexible and dynamic environment that facilitated and encouraged collaboration.
The newly designed space, known as the “CoLab”, aimed to be a catalyst for change, inspiring creativity and promoting new behaviours. It was envisioned as an environment that would not only reflect the company’s commitment to innovation but also serve as a hub visible from the formal reception area. This ensured that the space had a strong visual presence and made it easily accessible for all employees and visitors.
The project also emphasised the importance of connectivity, both virtually and physically. The space was designed to be connected in a digital sense, allowing for seamless communication and collaboration across different locations. Additionally, the physical layout of the hub featured multiple varied collaboration settings, encouraging spontaneous interactions and brainstorming sessions.
One notable feature of the transformed space was the retention of the sky wall, which added a unique and inspiring element to the overall design. This natural element helped create a sense of openness and connection with the outside world.
To ensure the success of the transformation, the workplace change team made a conscious effort to be visible and accessible within the welcome space. This allowed employees to easily approach them with any questions, feedback, or concerns, fostering a sense of engagement and involvement in the transformation process.
THE RESULT
Overall, the transformation of the existing meeting rooms into an innovative hub was a resounding success. The new space serves as a focal point for education and support, while also promoting collaboration, inspiring creativity, and facilitating new behaviours. The project exemplified the company’s commitment to embracing change and creating an environment that encouraged innovation and collaboration.
