On Saturday 15th June, Estilo Interiors was proud to sponsor a local boxing exhibition in aid of Oliver Hercombe (ollie_bionicboxer). Oliver is a sixteen-year-old boxing enthusiast who has been training since he was six years old.

On the 18th of March, Ollie broke his leg whilst sparring at the gym in the boxing ring. After the examinations at the hospital, the X-Ray showed a tumour at the break site. Ollie underwent various tests and a bone biopsy while submitted to the hospital. When the results returned, the news wasn’t good, and Ollie was diagnosed with an extremely rare type of cancer, Adamantinoma, which is found in only 1 in 1.9 million people.

This, however, didn’t deter Ollie, and with his leg plastered purple, and a hospital-borrowed wheelchair he went back to school. Unfortunately, further tests revealed the cancer had spread, and Ollie was left with two treatment options. Limb salvation which would result in ankle fusion, muscle loss, deformity, mobility restriction and a possible return of cancer, or amputation above the knee. Ollie made the brave decision to have his leg amputated above the knee, which he hopes will lead to a better quality of life, and more importantly, a higher survival chance.

Jamie Horrocks, Ollie’s trainer and event organiser said, “Having trained Ollie from a young age and seeing his progress it was utterly devastating to find out this awful news. But Ollie is and always will be a fighter and this event was about supporting him in that fight and rallying our local boxing community together to show support for an amazing lad.”
A GoFundMe campaign has been started to raise funds for an Ottobock Genium X3 prosthetic leg, which will allow Ollie to regain his mobility and potentially his boxing career.
The event, held at Meadway Social club and organised by Willclare Fitness, hosted 8 semi-professional and white-collar matches and raised a total of over £500 in donations on the evening, with all sponsorship and other donations going directly to the GoFundMe campaign, which has now raised over £55,000 for this incredible cause.
